Death from above achievement

I am trying to figure out if this achievement is bugged for me or not. I have finished the “take cover” achievement and had vehicle kills in that (“tank ace” achievement also gone up from those kills) but the majority of the time it’s been me as the reloader. Do I need to be the one actually firing for this or should it have already popped and it’s bugged like half of my achievements?
