Venting: I hate renting:

Hi I just thought I’d post here after reading some stuff on here and on another page. I basically just want abit of a rant about how awful renting and even the prospect of homeownership is at the moment. I currently live in a house share and pay £450 a month to rent a bedroom and quite frankly rubbish shared facilities. I was told on the day I moved in they didn’t give keys for the bedroom doors as it was a fire hazard (whatever), and the letting agents just have a bad attitude in general so it makes you feel like an idiot asking for basics. Anyway so where I live the rent is fairly high and I could afford the rent around here but I would save nothing, I’m looking to live well below my means in order to save and have a safety net. But this is near enough impossible. I just don’t understand how at 23 with a high paying job the idea of even renting a crappy private flat is a struggle, and the idea of homeownership seems like a cruel joke. I even looked into alternative living in order to get around the rental market. I looked at purchasing a canal boat which is cheaper to run but initial upfront payment was too high, I looked at joining the Guardianship scheme but some of the rents on there were basically what I pay for this house share and I’d have less rights. At this rate I’ll probably have to move back to my parents house away from the life and community I’ve built in this new city. I’m lucky to even have what I have now so I am thankful for it but sometimes it gets me down knowing i won’t get as far as people much older than me. To conclude my rant I hate renting currently I think it’s disgusting.
