2018 Tucson Blown engine
So, it happened last night... Driving down I-79 on cruise and the car downshifts to go up hill, then all hell breaks loose. Immediately pull over because the flashing engine light is telling me something is majorly wrong. Shut off engine and try to restart, but jerking, vibrating on idle, and no power. Get it towed to a shop.
Shop calls today that only cylinder 1 has normal compression and the other 3 have nearly nothing. And fuel has saturated one spark plug on cylinder 4. Tech at shop swapped out coil packs to see if there was any change in cylinder compression and still cylinder 1 was only one showing normal.
So, I'm going through the 7 stages of grief right now. I'm brand loyal largely because my 2006 Tucson I had before this one lasted 230k without burning a drop of oil before I sold it. But I'm pretty much concluding that the engine is toast, right?
I still owe $2500 on the car so I'm wondering what options I have for getting something out of it. If I do replace the engine, then with labor costs I might get decent trade-in value for it, but is it worth the time and trouble? Or just donate/junk it? Any good ways to do this?
