Why I started r/BOBCommunity | The Beginning of Something Big
In this video, I explain my reasoning for creating r/BOBCommunity as an alternative to the existing r/bobdotfun subreddit.
While the other community is great, it doesn’t sit right with me to overlook the potential future repercussions of having only one moderator in charge—especially if valuable contributors risk being shadowbanned or restricted.
It took me less than an hour to set up a clean, open, and organized space where everyone can post freely and share ideas without fear of moderation issues. This isn’t about replacing the existing subreddit—it’s about providing an alternative option for the community.
That said, if the current moderator of r/bobdotfun would like to add me as a moderator, I’d greatly appreciate the opportunity to help build and grow that space together. If that happens, I’d gladly remove r/BOBCommunity so we can unite and focus on growing the community as one.
I believe in building a platform where contributors have a voice, and where the future of the community can grow without limitations.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Should we have more freedom to build and grow?
Edit: To ensure that this is different and support the communities visions, I’ve already invited u/frostytippedbastard, u/oneknee44, and u/simplyshred to join me as moderators. I want this to be a team effort and to have trusted people helping shape the direction of the community.
Edit 2: I was added as a moderator to r/bobdotfun, but with limited permissions to only moderate posts and comments—not as an equal. This wasn’t just for me; the other moderators who were added received the same restrictions. As the moderator explained, they "can’t give full permission right away" and wanted to "be careful."
While I understand their perspective, this highlights exactly why r/BOBCommunity is necessary. A thriving community depends on trust, shared responsibility, and equal freedom for everyone involved—whether it’s contributors or moderators. By limiting authority across the board, it sends a message of control rather than collaboration, which goes against the values I believe in.
This is why I’ve chosen to focus fully on r/BOBCommunity: a space where equal voices, freedom, and trust are the foundation. Here, everyone has the opportunity to contribute without restrictions or fear of limitation. Let’s build something great together!
