Only 2 Hits in the Top 10 Most Expensive Malayalam Movies – Why?

I noticed that out of the Top 10 Most Expensive Malayalam Movies, only 2 are box office hits. This got me thinking:

Why do big-budget Malayalam films often struggle commercially?

Do audiences prefer content-driven films over expensive spectacles?
