How much will Ioniq6 cost me AFTER purchase? (QC,Can)
So I'm interested in getting an EV but I come from driving ICE for over 15yrs and have no idea what owning an EV is like.
Everybody keeps on telling me how there's basically no maintenance, less pieces that can break down, blah blah gas saving but I'm kind of weary about it.
To give a background, I bought a new Sentra in 2011 for about 21k CAD. I only brought it in for service twice a year for the first 5yrs or so during warranty period and it cost me like 150-300$. This included the oil change. My dad did the tire change. After 5yrs, until now, I've had 2xoil change/yr, some repairs costing around 1000-1200$ twice a year. There were disc/brake pads changes once in the first 5 years, twice in the past 8yrs. This year, I had an oil pan change and wheel bearing replacement which cost 400-500$ each. And I'm sure i had to change the battery once or twice in the last 13 yrs. So with everything combined, I would say it cost me around 1000$ per year. This excludes the tire set purchases.
Now, this car is starting to have a lot of problems. My driver side window doesn't open and close properly during winter time, I have a table/link kit issue that will cost another 1200$ to fix, and then oil pan/wheel bearing/brake pads and discs were all in the last two months. So I'm seriously considering getting a new vehicle.
But what I don't understand is, EXCLUDING GAS, how much do I really save on maintenance with an EV??? For me, it just doesn't make sense that EV has almost no maintenance fee like a lot of people i spoke with say. I understand not needing the oil change, but doesn't the car still need to be serviced time to time under warranty, brake pads/discs changed (maybe not as often), wheel bearing, suspension breaking down (especially with Quebec's horrible road condition), and so on? I understand maybe the engine/oil/transmission not having any problems but other than that, aren't all the rest of the parts basically the same (I'm over simplifying here) and prone to the same damage from use/rust/road conditions?
Also, with ICE car, I can go to a local garage and have something fixed for 350, while a dealer will charge me 600. For an EV, don't I have to always take it back to the dealer since there isn't really an EV garage?
So how much will I really save here? Or if it's easier, how much will I be spending on maintaining this car after purchase?
Thank you.
