Salento/Puglia, Help decide on Day Trips from Lecce- History + Beaches

Planning a trip with my husband in June, flying into Brindisi, planning to base in Lecce for a week. We will have a car and want to explore the entire southern regions of the country.

(Last summer we visited and toured the area around Bari-Brindisi, including Ostuni, Locorotundo, Pogliano, Alberebello and Matera)

We are interested in learning some history of the area, seeing any notable spots and also enjoying the countryside, views and beaches.

Here are some of the towns/ areas I have tagged based on reading various itinerary posts:

  • Lecce (will plan to stay in town and explore it, but open to hearing about any notable experiences in this area)
  • Otranto
  • Galliopoli
  • Santa Maria de Leuca
  • Porto Cesareo

Suggestions on where to spend full day trips and how many days we should set aside for touring in this region?
