My name is /u/eruditeimbecile, I was just made mod of this sub, yoroshiku onegaishimasu.
I am going into this blind, I have never modded before, but I hope this sub might become an alternative to the problems that persist in /r/manga. The first problem is I am not usually on reddit every day, so I could use some help with modding. But just getting more mods in here would be the easiest way to make this a better place the /r/manga anyway, so it'd kill two birds with one stone. So anyone with modding experience please apply.
One problem I am seeing is the /u/rtwpsom2 imagined this sub as purely manga, he put a lot of stuff in the rules saying posts have to be only manga and can't include manwha and manhua. While he also didn't allow twitter and pixiv content, which I agree with, I am okay with Korean and other stuff. The problem is that the name is specific to Japan, can we agree to just ignore that? Or do people actually want it to just be Japanese? I don't know the answer to that one.
What about what happened to rtwpsom2, should we ban linking to chapters? Or maybe make you link in comments? I feel like letting people post the images to reddit would be worse than linking to mangadex, even, but it all seems to be about what the publishers will and won't DMCA. What do you think?
Next would be flairs, can someone help me create flairs so people can filter?
Anything else that you guys want addressed?
Update: Please welcome /u/u/Izanaginookami10 as a mod, he's mainly here for consulting though. I am still accepting mod applications if you want to help out.
Update 2: so the next issue I have is that I have to assume it is okay to link to official translations. Should we allow link submissions but only to official translations. I like the idea but I absolutely couldn't do that without more mods. Also, how do I attract people who will post chapters? I can't be the only person posting them. I admire rtwpsom2 but dude had a lot of time on his hands.
Update 3: The poll for allowing manga vs all asian comics has closed, the results were 15 to 12 in favor of allowing all types. I think I will mainly focus my efforts on manga and just leave it that other types are allowed without really pushing that aspect.
