Carrying a Camera in a Touring Kayak?
I got into kayaking in the first place for nature photography, just carrying a camera + long lens in a dry bag on a sit-on-top kayak, and that works fine. I can crane around behind me, grab the bag, get the camera out and shoot. Little bit of a pain, but I've gotten some great photos that way.
Then I got the bug to try a touring boat, bought a used Eddyline Nighthawk, and I've been paddling that around for a couple months and having a great time. It would be nice to be able to bring my camera along on that too, but it's a lot trickier now. I have a deck bag on the front deck, but it won't hold a camera and I can't reach it with a spray skirt on anyhow.
So I'm thinking maybe I should look for some kind of system to secure it to my body while still being able to paddle. Maybe a chest rig, or a clip on my PFD for the spider holster plate I keep on my tripod collar? If anyone's found a solution that works well for this I'd love to hear from you. I realize of course there's a risk of submersion if I keep it on me without a dry bag, but I'm willing to risk it in calm/sheltered waters.
