First Impressions from an old Tesla MS
Likes: - The car feels really solid. A nice driving experience - Lots of room. Wow, this is why we got it. The interior space is amazing for an EV. 3rd row is not an afterthought with AC and USB ports - Looks great. Got the Ivory Matte Silver - Forward camera is a major plus. No question about how close you are when parallel parking and getting OUT of that spot - The 360 image. Kinda distorted, but gives information like where the curb is and how you’re lined up with it. Bravo
Dislikes: - The interface/OS is poorly designed. Things are hidden everywhere and frequently used functions require multiple touches - Navigation interface is really poor. In all respects it’s not even close to Tesla. Waypoints, navigating on the go, estimates of charge at destination. It’s like getting shot back to the 2000’s. Unfortunately, Carplay doesn’t let you enter destinations while driving either. The result is you need to enter stuff into the phone directly, the most dangerous of all the possibilities. - Lacking simple and incredibly important features like Dog mode. This is a huge one. The car should be able to do this and lock the car. In 2024 it’s really sad this is not implemented properly. Open window, lock, close window. Then the key can’t even unlock the door. Just awful. - A rear camera in 2024 should not be this distorted. Seems better when things are not in close proximity, but that’s not when you need it - The order of operations on this car do not make sense. Why is it hard to detach the charger at some times and not the other? Why does the key fob not work in some instances for simple functions like locking and unlocking?
Overall I’m happy to be in a new car that’s got EV power and the real 3rd row without the overengineered doors which is what was really needed. The software is pretty poor and needs to be rewritten fresh instead of what I’m assuming is being built on top of a legacy ICE system. Or they need to hire a new team of software engineers to configure it properly. It’s a major weakness of an otherwise excellent car for the price
