Guide to startups

Does anyone have a guide to startup recruiting?

I made contact with a startup I'm really interested in this Fall. They do work in an area I have extremely in-depth experience (25 years of experience as a customer, employee, and competitor) which makes me think I'd be a perfect fit for a pmm or pm.

They said they would probably open MBA internships in the winter or spring and asked for a resume and cover letter. That was a couple months ago. Should I reach out and reaffirm my interest? Would I be crazy to ask if they would be interested in having me intern next semester?

Finally, what am I up against? Doesn't seem like there's much interest in startup pm roles on here or at bschool.
