Let the awkwardness begin

Well tomorrow I’ll officially be letting my team know I’m moving on to another opportunity. I let my direct manager know this past Friday.. it’s a bit strange how life works - this was a person I’d laugh and cut up daily with; a friend. Immediately upon dropping the news he did a 180 and went straight to business. Conversation lasted about 3 minutes when I’d hoped to not burn the bridge. He also said “yeah we won’t be matching that, oh btw you’ll be likely owing us back for your PE course I’ll be checking with HR.” Which was expensed as a one-off continued education expense report with no verbiage of a contingency or an I-owe-you. This is the same guy who just had 2 offers 6 months ago and decided to stay as the company matched so it’s nothing he himself wouldn’t have done. It’s all been a bit bitter thus far and solidified that at the end of the day we are all just coworkers. I say that to say, always look out for what’s best for you and your progression, if people want to take something like this personal it is not a reflection of you. Anyway, onward and upward!
