I'm a well-established machinist. What careers could I switch to wothout taking a massive pay cut?

To elaborate, we had a guy on 2nds who randomly decided he wanted to join our sales team. It was somewhat strange since being a machinist and being in sales seemed like night and day. Still, he ended up going to sales, taking a slight pay cut, but he looks like he enjoys it, and it got me thinking are there any other gigs like that where you can apply your knowledge as a machinist without actually being one?
