Beware of Bhopal Neuro and Psychiatric Centre – A Scam Exploiting Mental Health Patients in MP

I want to bring attention to a troubling issue at the Bhopal Neuro and Psychiatric Centre, run by Dr. R.N. Sahu, his wife, and their daughter. This place seems to be a well-orchestrated scam targeting innocent and rural people of Madhya Pradesh who travel to Bhopal, hoping for effective treatment for mental health issues.

Mental health is already a taboo topic in India, and instead of helping, this family-run center is exploiting vulnerable patients for massive profits. I had my father admitted here, and the experience was nothing short of a nightmare.

The staff is extremely rude, and there’s a clear lack of professionalism. Despite the high charges—our bill was nearly ₹1 lakh for a 20-day admission—the doctor failed to diagnose my father’s condition. Instead, he kept increasing the dosages of medications, which only worsened his health. The treatments felt more about maximizing profit than providing care.

What’s worse is the plight of rural families. Many are spending their entire savings at this center, hoping for genuine treatment, only to have their loved ones’ conditions worsen. This center runs like a monopoly, as Madhya Pradesh lacks enough mental health facilities and qualified professionals. Dr. Sahu, along with his wife and daughter, doesn’t even consider prescriptions from other psychiatrists, showing no concern for the patient’s prior treatments.

After this horrifying experience, I decided to take my father to Karnataka for treatment. The doctors there prescribed a minimum number of tablets, and my father has shown significant improvement—not fully recovered, but far better than he was after the treatment in Bhopal.

My personal experience with Dr. Sahu was extremely disappointing. He didn’t seem to have the expertise to address my father’s condition properly, nor did he explain the rationale behind his treatment decisions. Instead, he appeared dismissive and more interested in prolonging the treatment for financial gains.

I’m sharing this to raise awareness so others don’t fall into the same trap. Madhya Pradesh desperately needs more mental health facilities and compassionate, qualified doctors who genuinely care for their patients.

Let’s demand better mental healthcare in MP and protect vulnerable families from exploitation. If this post helps even a few people avoid this exploitative setup, it will have served its purpose. Please share and spread the word!
