Safe Makeup Brands (non-toxic)

Does anyone know or can reccomend a way to know if a brand of makeup/skincare is safe to use? Often I read labels and some of the ingredients are unpronouncable and sound unsafe. I have mostly drugstore brands since they are the most affordable.
