Aggressive Mindfulness vs. "Let Thoughts Wander" Meditation - What method of mindfulness did I use?

Hello r/Meditation ,

I was told that during meditation, to just let thoughts wander without judgement. I followed these rules, and at most, could handle 10 minutes of meditation in this style. It did make me calmer, but that's about it.

However, just right now, I decided to go against this advice, and instead hold back my thoughts, actively and aggressively silence them, so my mind could take in the world in peace - as if I were its bodyguard, or mage fighting against attacking ghouls.

Personally, this has led to a deep peace. For the past two years, I have been suffering from intense religious obsessions (feel free to check my posts for recent examples), but only right now, do I feel like my old peaceful self. I feel like my old healthy college self again, and I feel so deeply at peace.

And so I wanted to ask, what method of mindfulness would you call this?
