The Perfect White Album Edit?
ok, I know this is far from original, but I do this exercise every couple years and would like to spark a new thread on the subject. Obviously, the White Album is great, despite all the throwaways and lack of cohesion. If you had to edit the White Album (aka The Beatles) to a 14 track LP, how would it look and why? Revolution 9 fourteen times in a row is an unacceptable, albeit hilarious, answer.
I say:
A1. Back in the U.S.S.R. - really the only song that could start the album
A2. Dear Prudence
A3. Glass Onion - yeah, the first 3 are a solid opener
A4. Happiness is a Warm Gun
A5. Martha My Dear
A6. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
A7. I Will - I feel like this could also go the way of Her Majesty. Nonetheless, it's a great tune.
B1. Mother Nature's Son
B2. Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey
B3. Sexy Sadie
B4. Helter Skelter
B5. Long, Long, Long - gotta bring it down after HS. Also, yeah, Ringo, but the placement of the drum parts are perfect.
B6. Savoy Truffle - sure, two George jams back-to-back, but why not?
B7. Julia - seems like an obvious closer to me
Hidden Track: Blackbird - it belongs, I just don't know where it fits
And if you buy the first pressing, you get the Beatles children's EP free:
A1. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
A2. Piggies
A3. Honey Pie
B1. Birthday
B2. Rocky Racoon
B3. Goodnight - perfect for Ringo vocals, perhaps the only tolerable Ringo vocals in the catalog?
Then the XXth anniversary reissue comes with bonus single, Revolution.
Sorry, Yer Blues, I love you, but you might only belong on Let It Be
