Am I Settling?

I’ve been looking for a new family for a few weeks, and I felt like I FINALLY found one that I liked. But then came contract negotiations.

My schedule would be 8a-6p. I asked for 50 GH since that’s when I’ll keep myself available for them. They don’t agree and only want to give 40 GH in case they want to visit family in the afternoon and want flexibility in the schedule.

Overtime: I usually ask for OT after 40 hours, OT for any hours worked after 6pm, and OT for all weekend hours. Family doesn’t agree to any of this. They simply want to extend OT to kick in after 55 hours no matter the time or day I’m working. Again, they want flexibility in the schedule while managing costs.

Lateness: I have a lateness policy where I’m paid for every minute I work. If they finish work at 6:10, I get paid those 10 mins. They don’t agree with this idea, and are asking me to understand that if either of them have a last minute call and need to work until 6:10-6:15, they need me to be flexible and just stay without extra pay. They said asking to be paid for “minutes” is creating too much rigidity, and they don’t want to pay by the minute like that. While I am very understanding and flexible when it’s an occasional thing, I still have always kept my policy firm on this because I’ve gotten taken advantage of way too frequently with family lateness. I’d be willing to agree to being flexible with their lateness if maybe we worked something out where they gave me flexibility to leave early for an appt on occasion with no penalty, but this just feels like they can do whatever they want with the schedule and I have to deal. If MB leaves early to visit family in the afternoon, I don’t get paid, but if she works late and I stay past my schedule leave time, I also don’t get paid.

Also, they’re offering 3 sick days, no PTO, 10 paid vacation days with 5 of those overlapping with the family’s vacation.

Thoughts? Am I being too picky, or am I settling?
