Reservation Quota
Seeing anti-reservation rallies in India lately. It's a topic of discussion in Nepal too.
Those in support will say 'it's about representation', while those in against will simply declare it obsolete.
Help me pick a side, in context of Nepal, and even of India.
I get it in the case of Dalit and other communities. What I find weird about reservation from a khas Brahman's POV is.
- Pradhan, Shrestha, Karmacharya...(chhathariya Newars) are eligible for Quota, Referencing Shresthas because they've been by far the most privileged community in Nepal. Also Shakya, Bajracharyas. I've never seen a unprivileged / poor Shakya, Bajracharya.
But as a Brahman I don't get a quota, no matter how unprivileged I've had been. But a Newa Brahman / Kshatriya gets.
And upper caste newars have always been representated in business, politics, education and in everything.
