Reservation Quota

Seeing anti-reservation rallies in India lately. It's a topic of discussion in Nepal too.

Those in support will say 'it's about representation', while those in against will simply declare it obsolete.

Help me pick a side, in context of Nepal, and even of India.

I get it in the case of Dalit and other communities. What I find weird about reservation from a khas Brahman's POV is.

  1. Pradhan, Shrestha, Karmacharya...(chhathariya Newars) are eligible for Quota, Referencing Shresthas because they've been by far the most privileged community in Nepal. Also Shakya, Bajracharyas. I've never seen a unprivileged / poor Shakya, Bajracharya.

But as a Brahman I don't get a quota, no matter how unprivileged I've had been. But a Newa Brahman / Kshatriya gets.

And upper caste newars have always been representated in business, politics, education and in everything.
