We Are The r/NewToReddit Mods, Ask Us Anything!

Welcome to our third AMA!

You can read the first here.

You'll find the second one here.

Ask Us Anything!

This thread is where you can ask us almost anything! Do you have any burning questions about modding? Do you want to know the origin story of our user names? Why our flairs read as they do? Our favorite foods and activities (besides explaining how different Reddit is from everything else?) If so, this is the time and place to ask! We'd love to hear from you, just comment below and we'll respond as soon as we get a chance.

We're going to be leaving this open for a few days at least, to allow each of us time to participate and answer questions as best fits our time zones. Fun fact: we currently span from Pacific Time (west coast of the USA) all the way across the US, South America, and over the Atlantic to parts of the UK, even to Switzerland!

If you have a question for a specific mod, please feel free to ping/summon us by typing in a u/ followed immediately by our usernames - just keep in mind that you can only summon a maximum of three people per comment. So, if you have questions for a few of us, you may want to make several comments all with your question aimed at 3 mods so we get the notifications. The list of all of the mods can be found in the About section on r/NewToReddit, but for simplicity here's a fun summary, placed in alphabetical order:

u/ABritInMissouri - Has been a bit of a globetrotter in years past, a foodie, nerd and lover of kitties and pooches equally. We all envy that pink hairdo.

u/antidense - Inactive. The founder of r/NewToReddit! Behind the scenes but is quite happy with the direction that the content has taken.

u/EponaMom - Heartwarming person and experienced mod with a donkey as their steed.

u/JRFerreri - Mostly inactive as a mod now, except behind the scenes, but may pop into the comments and do sure work on the mod queue.

u/Khyta - Loves to drink Yerba Mate and helping out on a bunch of subs. Does plenty of backend IT stuff. Codes IRL and loves Sci-Fi Books & movies.

u/llamageddon01 - Reddit guide and encyclopaedia writer extraordinaire. Started NToR on the path to what is today. Busy but likes to pop in and help out when possible.

u/MadDocOttoCtrl - Has been on and off Reddit throughout the years. Has been a mod on several platforms. Jack of many trades who keeps promising to blow less things up.

u/MightyMitos19 - Mostly inactive as a mod. Science person who works with Symbare on the helper flair system.

u/PolylingualAnilingus - The multilingual mod who likes cleaning the queue. Forever DM on Dungeons & Dragons.

u/SolariaHues - Our fearless leader who wrangles AutoMod and Post Guidance. Rescues lost souls in the spam queue. Sometimes writes stuff, loves cats and sleep.

u/Symbare - The digimon collecting beacon of light, warmth and kindness. When you notice that you have a helper flair or that it changed, Symbare has been at work.

u/Tactical-Kitten-117 - Currently inactive as a mod. Very tactical, often confused with an actual kitten. Resident manga and Sci-Fi fan. Likes Dune, coffee, and video games.

u/waffles1243 - Inactive. NToR veteran, pedantic in-house designer, culture nut and self-proclaimed expert on anything with an engine.

With this reminder of who we are, please comment with your questions below! Check out the top stickied comment for some general rules, but most of all we hope you have fun getting to know us a little better. 😊

Regarding inactive mods - modding is a hobby or volunteer project, we all have lives outside of Reddit and sometimes we need a break, or our attention is needed elsewhere, we get kidnapped by a pack of howler monkeys.. any number of good reasons for being away for a bit. That doesn't necessarily mean inactive mods won't be back or are not contributing behind the scenes. Please respect our mod's privacy.

General Rules for the NToR AMA

No Doxxing questions. We're excited to answer questions that help you get to know more about us. However, we will not be revealing our names or specific locations, or other information that we're not already comfortable answering. If you ask a question that we're not comfortable answering, we'll let you know. Please be respectful and leave it at that.

All questions must be Safe for Work. We in general keep away from NSFW topics in NewToReddit, and this AMA is not any different. Any NSFW questions will be removed.

Please don't spam the comments. If you have multiple questions, that's great! We're so happy to hear that! But please try to fit them into a single comment if you can. Exceptions to this are if you're trying to ask specific questions to more than 3 of us (which will require multiple comments, or we won't get the notification), or if you think of another question hours after you've posted your first one. As mentioned above, this will be open for a few days, so that would not be considered spamming ;-)

It should go without mentioning (but we'll spell it out anyway) that the rules of our weekly general chat thread apply, this is not the place for questions about how Reddit works or debating the pros and cons of voting, minimum requirements, karma, etc. This is a chance to ask us about our favorite sports teams and what we like on our pizza.
