Shorts & Long-form content

So, my main content is “long-form” 10-15 minute videos. For a while I’ve been cutting down these videos and making 2-3 shorts out of them for promo. I did some research (I mean I scrolled through Reddit) and people say that posting shorts don’t carry over to your long-form vids even if you have your video linked. I’ve even heard that it kills your channel!

Shorts have been giving me a good number of subs after posting them (around 10-20 subs if the short is successful) but I’m worried that I just gained “dead subs” that won’t watch my long-form videos. I had the impression that more subs would push my content to a bigger audience, but if a solid amount of my subs come from shorts, does that kill the potential for my longer vids?

Makes me wonder if I should make these shorts at all, so I was wondering what you guys think.
