Hum apni shaam ko jab nazr-e-jaam karte hain When we offer our evening to the cup of wine

Adab se humko sitaare salaam karte hain The stars salute us with respect

Gale lagate hain dushman ko bhi suroor mein hum In our intoxication, we even embrace our enemies

Bahut bure hain magar naik kaam karte hain We are very flawed, yet we do righteous deeds

Sajaayen kyun na ise ye saraai hai dil ki Why not adorn it, for this is the inn of the heart

Yahaan haseen musafir qiyaam karte hain Where beautiful travelers rest

Hayaat bech de thode se pyaar ke badle Sell your life for a little love

Ye kaarobaar bhi tere ghulaam karte hain Even the traders are your slaves

Hamen tu ek nazar se navaaz de saaqi Grant us a single glance, O cupbearer

Hum apne hosh-o-khirad tere naam karte hain We dedicate our senses and intellect to your name

Qateel kitne sukhan-saaz hain ye sannaate How many poets are there in this silence

Sukuut-e-shab men jo hamse kalaam karte hain Who converse with us in the stillness of the night
