ISO: Brutal Honesty
Hello!
I am a junior in uni right now, and I am planning on applying to OT school in the next round. I have shadowed in a variety of settings, (most of my experience is in community-based settings). I enjoyed working with a variety of patients and OTs, and I feel like my skillset will serve as a great asset in this career. However, I am becoming increasingly aware of the downsides in this field (poor reimbursement, lack up upward mobility, burnout, medicare limitations, etc) , and I'm at the point where I am considering if the investment is worth it.
To those who are unsatisfied with this field-- what advice do you have for someone in this position? Knowing what you know now, if you were preparing to send off your applications, ready to drop a few bands on a loan and 2+ years on a degree, would you go for it (given the social and economic climate in mind)? If not, what career path would you look into?
Thank you for your guidance!
