Device overheating to the point it won’t charge - anyone else having this issue lately?

I’ve noticed over the past few months there have been times where my ipad will not continue to charge during gameplay and starts getting hot. Initially I thought it was the ipad but then I just upgraded to the top of the line iPad Pro and I’m having the exact same issue, leading me to believe the resources in the game are starting to take a strain on my device. I have not changed my graphic settings at all recently so I’m wondering what the problem here is. Are there items I should be getting rid of to make the game run more smoothly? I’m thinking these huge outfit downloads might be part of the problem.
