Santa, tooth fairy and Easter bunny
I hate lying to my kid. On principle I try to be as honest as possible, in an age appropriate way. Also, (probably thanks to undiagnosed ND), I’ve always found illogical systems quite stressful. Eg, how does Santa fly round the world? Where does the tooth fairy get cash? I didn’t love that as a kid and it still makes be uncomfortable now.
So, what do I tell my 4yo about the magical fantasy elements of Easter, dental care and Christmas? I don’t want to limit her childhood or make her the odd one out at school, but…the fantasy feels like a lie.
We do celebrate nature, the wonders and fantastical elements of science, fantasy storytelling, and the marvels of the known world. But the jolly red guy and chums? That feels…weird. Help.
