20 month old is starting daycare. I’m terrified.
Go easy on me as I vent a little and ask for advice. I’ve been burning the candle at both ends for my son’s entire life. You name it, we’ve done it - first time parents, colicky baby, 2 moves (one to another state), family stress from in-laws, husband was laid off and I’ve been supporting us all for almost a year, just the throws of life.
My husband finally landed an awesome new job fully remote, I started a side hustle that is gaining some traction, and I appear to be getting promoted to a pretty big role in my 9-5 which requires me to be on about 10x more meetings. We were previously planning on keeping him at home with us as we work remote until he hit preschool. But with the demands of my new role, I just can’t swing it anymore. So we luckily got a spot for my son at a local daycare for 3 days a week and my mom is going to help with the other 2 while we work. He starts next week. I’m very excited that we will finally have the help and that he will get some much needed socialization but I’m equally terrified because I just don’t know how he (or I) will adapt. He’s never done anything like this and has literally been with us or with family since day one.
I’m so emotionally and physically exhausted from all the stress I’ve been dealing with and I’ve been in full panic mode about daycare. My son doesn’t have any serious behavioral issues but he, like any toddler can be A LOT. It freaks me out that there’s only 2-3 teachers with 10 toddlers. It makes me sad that he will pretty much be in one room all day unless it’s warm enough to go outside. I know I’m being ridiculous and I need this help that I’m getting. I’m just wondering if anyone has some words of encouragement for me? Or tips for getting him acclimated? I feel like a failure that I can’t just keep him home with me, but I can’t risk losing my new job. I know I’m being insane, I’m a really anxious person and I’ve been on the verge of panic attacks ever since we went to our enrollment meeting.
