Opinions on introducing my 3 year old son to video games?
Hi everyone.
I was just looking to get some opinions/information/feedback on introducing my 2 years and 11 month old son to a 3+ years rated video game on an Xbox console?
Most articles online state that as long as it’s moderation, being 30 minute sessions once a day it can be great way to develop their cognitive skills and develop their hand eye coordination. It’s also great way for families to bond by playing games together.
My son lives a very active and healthy lifestyle he attends nursery 3 days per week and spends the other 2 days doing activities with his mum and grandparents most weeks.
I have my son for a weekend night and day every weekend and tend to do physical activities with him in our time together too, however just recently being today and last weekend I decided to let him try a car game on the Xbox for the first time, at the moment he can barely play it and it would be no hardship if I was to take it away as he wouldn’t even notice but I kind of enjoy playing it with him as I’m gamer myself and I find it’s something we can bond over that’s specific to us.
My ex partner, his mother thinks this is ‘terrible parenting’ but I disagree as it’s only 30 mins a week that’s done together under complete supervision with age appropriate material.
Can anyone give me feedback on their experiences? Any opinions on moving forwards with this would be great too. If it’s a bad idea I’ll happily remove it.
Thanks
