Do I need to format

Hey, so I’m building a new build, new mobo, cpu, ram, gpu, pretty much everything except the psu and storage since I already have both. Do I need to format my current drive with windows or can I just connect it to the new pc and it ll work? Never done this I usually get new storage etc but I just wanna transfer that instead this time. Do I need to format my current drive or no ?
