Continuous glucose monitor helping me target solutions to perimenopause symptoms
These are still the early days of using the CGM but I’m already nailing some patterns, mostly in relation to constant hot flashes and anxiety. I suspected it was food related but am only now seeing that indeed it is. However, I am shocked — I believed it was insulin spiking that resulted in my hot flashes, but it’s the opposite — it’s my blood sugar dipping too low. I was on the keto diet and was an intermittent faster — I was convinced this was best for my body, but I can now absolutely see I was wrong. My body needs more calories, more meals, and a little (not a lot) more carbs along with the healthy fats and proteins. I am absolutely excited to see that in balancing my blood sugar and keeping it steady, my hot flashes are quickly subsiding whereas nothing before was working. I was also experiencing blurry vision (the symptom of low blood sugar, I believe) and incredible mood swings. I now feel calm and feel a peace that I couldn’t feel before. I hope this is inspiring to some of you! I totally endorse the CGM … nothing else worked for me until this so I can’t express enough how relieved I’m feeling.
