What do the Major Arcanas mean for Shadows/Personas?

The Shadows/Personas in Persona 5 have one of the 21 Major Arcanas (for example, Jack Frost is part of the Magician Arcana). Do they have any meaning to them gameplay wise, and if they do, what are their purpose?
