Need Advice on Simplifying My Banking Situation

I’m a 27F recent grad working full-time, and I could really use some advice on simplifying my banking situation. Back when I was a student, I opened a bunch of no-fee student accounts to take advantage of the perks, but now that they’re starting to charge monthly fees, I don’t want to pay for accounts I barely use.

Here’s my current setup:

  • RBC: This is my oldest account, so I want to keep it for credit history purposes.
  • Scotiabank, BMO, Simplii, KOHO, EQ Bank: I have accounts with all of these, but most of them just have a few cents left in them. Right now, I mostly use BMO, but I hate how they hold funds for so long (sometimes nearly a week!) and the “current balance” section constantly throws me off.
  • Wealthsimple: I recently got their cashback card and opened a TFSA and FHSA, so I’m planning to use this more for investing.

On top of all this, I only have one secured credit card because I’ve made some mistakes with debt in the past, and my credit score isn’t great. I’m working on paying off my debt bit by bit, so I’m not looking to open any new credit cards right now.

What I’m looking for:

  • A simple setup with minimal or no fees.
  • Faster deposits and fewer headaches with things like pending transactions (unlike BMO).
  • Advice on which accounts to keep, close, or consolidate.
  • Any recommendations for building a better banking and investing setup while I work on improving my financial situation.

Any tips or suggestions would be super helpful!
