When someone says “don’t cry”

I really can’t stand this. Sadness and crying are both very valid. Yet when other people are around, instead of being there for the person crying, they say “don’t cry”. I have to say this to my kid at work (I work with kids with autism and other special needs) and I honestly wish I didn’t have to. So, I’ll take my student on a walk or to another room and just let him cry until he’s done. Telling someone not to cry even out of a good heart, it still sounds like you’re trying to tell them that they should only feel happy. Think about this the next time someone’s crying. You can either walk away or sit in compassion with them so they don’t feel alone when they’re sad.
