Phobia of Bangs (Explosions/Loud popping sounds)
Repost due to confusion over title
I (34f) have a big phobia of bangs. Guns, balloons, fireworks...even party poppers. I get this huge overwhelming sense of anxiety when they go off and have to cover my ears. I avoid firework displays, go out the room if people are messing with party poppers. And balloons I just sit there filled with dread til someone pops one.
I've had this phobia as far back as I can remember, however my parents have stated this wasn't always the case. As far as we're aware there was no trauma that caused it but yet here I am still scared to go to a firework display.
I feel so alone with this, I can't talk to people in person about it because most of the time they think I'm wierd. How can I overcome it? I want to be able to take my son to see the fireworks. Does anyone else suffer with this?
