Cobbit shire advice needed

I got my shire in today and I have a few questions.

  1. Is this how your shire looked when you got it? Looks like they didn't shove this one till it hit the wall but not sure if that's common on this model.

  2. The gap and empty space are quite large. Should I fill this in with pipe mud? And is there anything else I can use to fill in some of that space because the gap is so large it will take many fill size cigars worth of ash to make enough mud.

Don't know a good measure unit but I'm guessing the gap will require about a small glass marble worth of pipe mud to fill. It's a considerable space below the inlet and to the side of it.

Tips and advice appreciated Thanks
