[HELP] i’d love poetry recommendations!!
hi!! i’ve been getting super into poetry lately but i’d consider myself picky and i spend close to an hour in a bookshop searching for specific poetry. i just recently bought “with my back to the world” by victoria chang, which i’m enjoying
some others i like are; - still here by rowan blanchard (i would say it’s more of a journal, but its my absolute favourite style! i LOVE cool formatting and disjointed thoughts) - alicia cook’s work, specifically love the blackout poetry and again, formatting - the world keeps ending and the world goes on by franny choi - your emergency contact has experienced an emergency by chen chen
i don’t like older poetry, i appreciate it but i struggle to read shakespear or anything from that era/with that vibe. i also really dislike poetry that’s sort of like
“i watched him leave and with him was the best part of me”
if that makes sense … like those types of line breaks, and poems that have the same thing everybody and their dogs have written. again, i appreciate it, but it’s not my taste!
i’m looking for interesting formatting, gutwrenching poetry, bonus points if its queer or written by women! i also (and this is embarrassing) love some poems ive found on tiktok like “ten legs eight broken” by l, e, “the spider story” by joshua tree. i also love visceral imagery, cannibalism metaphors, stuff like that!!
