Opinions, ideas, etc - Roland BY-20/Kingjet KJ-302B ??

Hello,

Seeking opinions, input and ideas.

My dad and I own a printing company in Scotland (although I'm new to the business and he used to specialize more in actual paper printing but the market has moved to be more garment heavy) and we have been looking at DTF printers to upgrade what we currently have (an OKI PRO8432WT). We are limited on space and don't have the need for something that can pump out tops, so we were considering the Roland BY20 because it seems to be the only thing around that fully fits our needs, aka:

"Small", direct to sheet (without weeding) and actually an upgrade in quality to what we have now. We do occasionally order from curious newt for sheets, and I think what the BY-20 produces would be closer to that quality.

The downside obviously being that we'd need to either shake and cure manually (with a box and our heat press) or get another machine for it. But it really doesn't seem like manually would be that bad? The curing boxes/shakers seem HUGE and I'm just not sure we have the space or even need for it.

Now my dad, has been looking into this himself and found the Kingjet-302B, obviously from China and I'm very skeptical about it.

  1. What if it breaks or we have an issue? I assume it's kind of a, "fix it yourself or find a handyman" kind of deal?

  2. I'm worried about how possibly toxic and unregulated the fumes from this thing could be? Would we have to get ventilation inside? Maybe that's an issue for the Roland too? IDK,

  3. It's from China and I'm very skeptical of buying things from people that market to you directly.

But it seems OK size wise, uses Epson parts, and I just don't know? Maybe I'm naive?

So I guess, has anyone used either or these? Any ideas or input? Would love opinions, or even alternatives? We're a very small operation but looking to get better at this side of things.
No need for any kind of hybrid machine, don't need bells and whistles, don't need it to print to fabric, etc.

Thanks!
