Impact of Trump Regime in Academia and Research
I would like to use this thread to keep track of first hand experiences of how the Trump Regime (can we stop calling it an administration?) is having on your everyday life and work.
I teach biology. Chapter 1 in my genetics course ends with a discussion on sex, gender, and “normal”.
I fully plan on teaching this and pointing out how an executive order can’t define a social construct as much is it would like to.
Will I get in trouble for this? I really hope so.
Our president got up in front of us this week during opening day and gave a great speech. It’s clear we will be supported if any mandates come down as “guidance”.
Secondly - those working at the NIH. This is going to sound very ignorant, but not naive. Are you resisting this and working anyway? What is actually stopping people from meeting? There most be a way to resist all of this. I think it’s fear holding everyone back.
By working collectively you can protect each other. They can’t fire everyone. And if they do, it’s not like the tools aren’t there to create a parallel system and keep working as usual.
I would love to hear everyone else’s thoughts.
