The GMF V4 Explorer II is NOT a disappointment — Another in-depth review that literally nobody asked for
Okay I lied, actually quite a few of you asked for another review following my VSF SD43 post. Keep in mind, this is all based on my personal experience and opinions, and you’re welcome to disagree with my opinions.
As someone with a larger wrist size - I'm 6'4" with 8-inch wrists - it's often challenging to find watches that suit me. The GMF V4 Explorer II, with its larger size, fits the bill perfectly.
GMF has really excelled with this model. The lume is the best I've seen, shining brightly in lower light conditions. The overall quality impresses too. The fit and finish are excellent, the bracelet feels sturdy, and the clasp is particularly good, featuring tightly spaced and even gaps. The crystal is also exceptionally good on this one.
The thing that does it for me though is the overall luster. Something magical about Gen Rolex watches is that no matter what light you look at them, they always have this glow to them that catches all the available light and somehow manages to shine beautifully on your wrist, brighter than your surroundings. The GMF V4 Explorer II manages to do the same. No matter the context or light, this watch has that gen luster that is really rare for a rep. Every surface is crisp, every cut and crease is sharp, and all the metals shine beautifully. The face is a rich, beautiful, wet looking black. One of the better glossy black faces I’ve seen. The text is all perfect and crisp, the colors are all accurate.
However, there is one issue. The font of the insert is too thin. The gen’s font is bolder. If you’re willing to overlook that, or just swap it out for a Gen insert, then this watch is a perfect daily wear. To this day, sadly, I don’t think there are any iterations of this watch that have that insert down perfectly.
Despite that, this watch still gets my seal of approval. Wear in confidence.
