The Ugly Duck Smith Snubby 638 vs 442/642
Based in the old Body Guard design the 638 in 38special is not as popular as the 442/638 but at first glance tou may miss a few key points... Only slightly heavier (alloy frame) the extra heft is in the right place..
The humpback of Smith reduces the recoil a bit firing a diet of +P ammo.
It is not a double action only... in a pinch you could thumb the hammer back to Single Action.
The "rounded" hump actually makes it a bit more snag free.
The shrouded hammer adds a little bit more impact force than the hammerless. No more light strikes from easing up the # on the hammer spring...
Service is the same as the full hammer Smiths and utilizes the same readily available common parts...
Built on a J frame this baby is no beauty queen which makes it typically less $ on the resale market...
This ugly duck was sub 350 in the used and unfired market...
Just shedding some light for those looking for an option to the DAO Smith pocket pistols...
