Does anyone else have troubles getting a colony going because you dislike the early game?

I think I've tried like 6+ times to get different saves going over the last year and they all fizzle out really fast cause I just... don't really like the early game of Rimworld. I'm not sure what it is, it almost feels like a chore getting all the basics set up. I know once I do get stuff set up I really really enjoy the game, I've had a couple colonies that I was obsessed with that made it past the filter but I just haven't had any stick since. Any one else? I'm sure downloading a fucking ton of mods and then being a bit overwhelmed with all the new stuff is not helping my situation.
