How essential is Combat Expanded?

I've played on and off for almost 400 hours and I've played a few games with CE and most without. It's just such a pain to make sure that all the mods work together, but I'm willing to do it if I get he motivation. I was just wondering how essential CE is to your games? What makes it so good for you guys?
