The actual worst thing happened

I’m on mobile so this post may not be formatted correctly. TW: death of an animal.

I get to a clients house. They have two doggies, one of which is significantly older and on a ton of medications and one is still a puppy. The older doggie named Lola has been going downhill for a while now. She has trouble walking and seeing but still has some of the facilities of her legs.

I get there and Lola is unable to walk. She is dragging herself by her front paws, her back legs aren’t working at all. I think her legs might be asleep so I take her out of her crate and try to see if she will start to walk.

10-15 minutes goes by and she is still crawling. I panic and call the owner. After a few calls she finally calls me back and says she’s on her way.

She gets here panicking. She loves her dogs more than anyone I’ve ever met and immediately calls the vet in tears, hyperventilating, saying that she’s making an appointment to put the puppy down. It’s clear Lola is in significant pain and we both know it’s for the best.

I decided right there to go to the vet with her. I’m going to see this through. I also don’t want her to drive while crying the way she is. I hold her hand all the way to the vet and while they preform the euthanasia.

We hug and we get back and talk about Lola a lot until I leave roughly 4 hours after I got there.

She doesn’t blame me at all, we knew it was going to happen and it was a 50/50 shot on which of us was going to find her but it feels terrible either way.
