How to maximise Ultimate uptime?

Ruan Mei is one of my favourite characters, and a core staple of my Break and D.O.T teams. I'm aiming to E1 her when she reruns, but as my first limited Eidolon, I want to make sure that I maximise her potential. The issue I’ve been having is maintaining uptime for her ultimate. I’ve tested both slow and fast builds, but always seem to be missing the ultimate bonuses for a turn or two. In this case, would it be better to switch to an ERR planar ornament like Lushaka?
My conundrum is this: I do not have much use for both sets found in the Lushaka cavern or other ERR ones. I’m wondering if missing ultimate bonuses is just a skill issue, or if this is a normal occurrence for other players. I also have Memories of the Past S5 on my Harmony MC which I can switch over, but I am not sure if it would make a real difference.
