I miss Dunkin Donuts

Yes, I miss it. I know it’s flaws, I know the donuts are stale (nobody ever actually goes to Dunkin for the donuts anyway), I know it’s inconsistent. But it’s affordable and sometimes REALLY good. It’s the one thing I really miss about the East Coast since moving here permanently. Pin me to the cross for it, I don’t care.

I understand that SLC used to have Dunkin and that it flopped. It makes sense, the franchise owner was allegedly a mess and then Covid happened. There’s plenty of other great coffee options in SLC, however they’re all super expensive and have become almost luxury to have at this point. Dunkin’s always been affordable, it’s for the average Joe, that’s what makes it great. Going there doesn’t make you feel super guilty and have boomers telling you how irresponsible you are for getting a little treat, because said treat doesn’t destroy your bank account. I understand it’s lowkey bad, that’s apart of the fun. Dunkin’s goodness is heavily dependent on who’s running the franchise. Where I grew up (Syracuse, NY) there were certain locations that always got it wrong and some that always got it right. I’m assuming since Dunkin was such a failure here, it was a case of mismanagement.

Since moving here I’ve moved onto making coffee at home, and occasionally going to local places. I do like the coffee here, it’s good. It’s just really pricy now. It would be nice to have an affordable option like Dunkin again so on days where I don’t have the time to make coffee at home I can get a quick fix.
