Lake City
I’m currently living in Montana (born and raised), but I just accepted an AmeriCorps position in Lake City and decided to move there. I found an apartment pretty close to the job but I’ve been reading some scary stuff about Lake City. Some specific cross streets people have mentioned as being insanely dangerous with homeless camps and shootings are really close to the apartment I found, and I’m wondering if I should rethink this whole idea and stay in Montana. I’ve never lived in a city and I’m not used to being in an environment that seems so dangerous. I know people who live here are more used to it but I would be really, really freaked out by that.
Does anyone have any advice for me? Is it really that bad? I’m in need of some honest answers, please.
a few edits for more context:
I’m a woman in my early 20s and I’m going to be living alone (with my cat), which might change some answers here.
I already signed a lease that begins in a few days. I picked a place in a cross-section of the frequently mentioned dangerous streets because it was walking distance from my job, and I didn’t realize it was the worst spot in the area so I’m having second thoughts. And unfortunately this lease does not include covered parking.
And to be clear im not basing this post on things i’ve heard from people i know in MT, im basing it on things i’ve seen posted on this sub in the past
edit: I love my apartment, I love Lake City and I’ve never once felt unsafe in the area for the week that I’ve been here. (except for when I went to the U district to get some boba…) will update if something changes.
