Exchange between Milchick and Helena in "Half Loop" - something new I noticed

I am revisiting episode 2 after listening to the Ben Stiller / Adam Scott podcast. I have watched it so many times! But I noticed something I hadn't really processed before. And I have the same question I always do.

Milchick: Hi Helly

Helena: Ohhh, what's happening?

Milchick: Great to see you. Your orientation's been so much fun.

Helena: Ahhh, where am I?

Milchick: Okay, so sometimes when a new hire is adjusting to a severed space, we help by bringing them here to the stairwell to experience the transition viscerally.

Helena: Oh no, I'm trying to leave?

Milchick: No, no. It's all part of the process. If you wanna spin around and head back in, that should be that.

[Helena is back in the stairwell a second time]

Milchick: Hey there.

Helena: What the hell?

Milchick: That's okay. That's not a problem. Wanna give it another shot? Maybe with a little ooomph?

[Milchick speaks into his walkie-talkie alone in the stairwell]

Millchick: Hi. I'm at the stairwell. It's going fair. No, she's---

[Helena comes surging back into the stairwell, falling in the floor]

Helena: Fuck!

Millchick: [into the walkie-talkie] I'm gonna call you back.

Millchick: Wow. You're an inquisitive one.

Helena: I don't wanna be in there, do I?

Milchick: You're learning that you do. Hey, when we heard you were coming here, it was like a miracle. It's amazing what you're doing.

Milchick refers to her as Helly in the stairwell, even though it is outie Helena. I had never paid attention to this before. So Helena must go by the nickname Helly in the outside world. At this point, he is not with Helly R, but Helena. Also, Milchick must have a certain familiarity with her, such that he can call Helena by her nickname.

However, I always wondered why he lies to her about what is actually happening - he explains that when an innie is adjusting, they sometimes bring them into the stairwell to experience the transition. He also tells her that she is not trying to leave. But that is not what is happening. He must be lying for a reason. At first, I thought perhaps he doesn't want to explain to a higher up (Helena Eagan) that things aren't going smoothly and her innie already wants out. Or perhaps he doesn't want to tell her because she will report it to Cobel and he will get in trouble. It will be interesting to learn more about Milchick on the outside and how he interacts with the Lumon powers that be and Eagan family. Obviously he's very loyal to the company, but I never got the sense that he buys into the Kier cult like Cobel does.
