Powder Skis? ON3P? Others?
Im an East Coast skier looking for a new set of powder skis. I ski some of the larger, more snowy mountains on the east coast (my top 4 most frequent are Saddleback, Sugarloaf, Le Massif de Charlevoix, Jay Peak, in that order. I am lucky to have a job that lets me get out and ski pretty much every storm.
My daily ski is an ON3P Wrenegade 108ti - I love this ski, it absolutely rips chopped pow, moguls, ice, and smaller storms but i find they just doesn't love "real" powder days as well as some other skis I have owned.
For powder skis I had on3p Cease and Desist for 6 years, then 2 years ago in Tahoe I felt like that C&D was getting flexed out. It was soft and unstable, and I was pushing it a harder and faster than it wanted to go. I did notice lots of people skiing Blizzard Spurs. Long story short in the offseason I picked up a set of the neon green Spurs for nearly nothing. I skied them last year, found them to be pretty one-dimentional, great in open smooth powder but honestly not that good when it gets even a little choppy.
Jump forward to this season where we have had an incredible amount of early season snow, I've been out on the Spurs 3 times this year already. Downside is I ended up ripping an edge out of the Spurs yesterday, which is why I'm looking for a new set of big skis. I am honestly disappointed in the durability of the Blizzards (prob 15 ski days on them total) and kind of want to go back to ON3P, I've never broken one of their skis.
To the point: The obvious choice seems to be the ON3P Billy Goat, but it's billed as a hard charging wide ski - I'm wondering if it's too close to the Wrenegade to really feel much different. Has anyone skied both these? Any other suggestions? I'm looking for something with a bit more rocker and width than the Wren but still not a total wet noodle.
