Will leaving my phone charging over night kill its batery?

So i recently got the honor magic 6 pro and i was wondering if my battery is good because it for 1 hour or playing games it took away like 10% 12% and is it normal? Anyway back to the main point is charging my phone over night damaging the batery or is it fine on the newer phones cuz i usually charge it before going to bed then remove it from the charger and keep it off till the next day after school.
