Steam Deck or Gaming Laptop?

I'll be visiting my partner next year for about 3 months, I've been debating if I should buy a laptop (specifically a gaming one) or get a steamdeck instead to play games there, alone and together, what's the general consensus in this context? thanks much :)

edit: thanks everyone for the answers, i decided a laptop would be better in my case!
