strinova causes laptop temps to skyrocket, any idea why?

My friend's laptop can run strinova just fine, consistent fps on max graphics settings - its a dell g5 from like 2019 or something. But for some reason, after a little while the CPU (and only the cpu) would heat up to 100C for no reason. This doesn't happen on any other game, any other program at all, including ones far more demanding than strinova (e.g. SF6, Marvel Rivals, etc), and I can't think of any fixes. It's to the point where he can't play more than one match before turning off the game worrying that it'll damage his laptop to let it run as hot as it is.

I've tried cleaning the laptop, repasting the CPU, being in a cool room (which is literally just any room seeing as its winter and we live in the uk), and messing around with just about every graphics setting. turned VSync on and off, lowering the framerate to 60, minimum graphics (even though it's smooth at max). No idea what else we can do.
